Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is epoxy flooring?
Epoxy is a two-part system (resin + hardener) that cures into a single, rock-hard “plastic” layer bonded to concrete. The result is > 200 % stronger and far more chemical- and stain-resistant than bare concrete.
Where can epoxy or polyaspartic floors be installed?
Almost anywhere you have concrete: garages, workshops, driveways, warehouses, commercial kitchens, showrooms—even living areas and alfresco zones.
How long will the floor last?
With professional surface prep and premium materials, residential epoxy floors typically last 15-30 years; commercial/industrial sites see 5-15 years depending on traffic.
How soon can I walk or drive on the new surface?
With a standard epoxy system you can usually walk on the floor after 24–48 hours, move heavy furniture after about 3–4 days, and drive a vehicle over it once a full 5–7 days have passed.
With a rapid-cure polyaspartic system you can be on the floor in roughly 6 hours, move furniture after about 24 hours, and park a car after 48 hours.
These times can shift a little with temperature and humidity, so we’ll give you exact guidance on site and leave written after-care instructions.
Is epoxy flooring slippery?
Epoxy can be slick when wet, but we broadcast non-slip additives (silica, aluminium-oxide or polymer grit) into the top-coat to meet the slip-rating you need— from domestic garages to commercial kitchens.
Can you coat over my existing concrete?
Yes—provided the slab is sound. We diamond-grind to remove paint, glues or laitance, repair cracks, check for moisture, then prime. Proper prep prevents peeling.
Epoxy vs. polyaspartic—what’s the difference?
Polyaspartic is a next-gen coating that cures in hours, has higher UV-stability and abrasion resistance, and can be installed in < 24 h start-to-finish. Epoxy remains the cost-effective all-rounder for most garages and warehouses. We’ll recommend the best system for your budget and downtime limits.
How long does installation take?
Most single-garage jobs are 3-4 days on site. Larger commercial areas are scheduled in stages so you can keep trading.
Will the floor yellow in the sun?
Clear epoxy can amber if exposed to direct UV. We prevent this by:
using full-flake colours that mask toning, and
sealing with a UV-stable polyaspartic or polyurethane clear coat.
